Secondary Education
Secondary Educators must possess the skills, and knowledge to instruct middle school and high school students (grades 7-12) in either public or provate institutions. At this level a general knowledge of many subjects is less appreciated; the teacher is desired to have an area of expertise.
As a result, secondary education degrees require the stuent to pick an area of concentration inb one of the many subjects offered at secindary schools. These types of courses usually include mathematics, science, english, foreign languages, geography, government, art, chemistry, and others.
The teachers' duties at this level go beyond their roles as simply educators. A secondary school teacher is often called to coach a sports team or direct an extra-curricular club like chess, dance or theater, and are often called on to resolve conflicts, and advise students in their future endeavors. These skills may also be learned while earning a degree in secondary education or can be selected as electives or concentration courses.
Because secondary educators have greater responsibility and knowledge, their average salaries are greater than teachers at lower levels. The average salary for a secondary school educator is around $52,500 a year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
