Physical Education
There is more to physical education than teaching the finer points of dodge ball. In fact, physical education teachers are more important than ever.
In 2004, the National Institute of Health found that 17% of American children aged 2-19 were not just overweight, but obese. Nearly one third of adult Americans were obese. Considering the dozens of diseases and ailments directly linked to being overweight, better physical education could save lives and easily improve the average longevity of Americans.
Physical Eduction courses will teach future educators a variety of sports and activities designed to improve physical fitness. And since physical education teachers often teach health courses, physical education teachers must also be versed in hygiene, nutrition, parenthood, and sexuality.
