Philosophy
Philosophy is the study of knowledge; the knowledge of what is is to be. To fully understand what it is philosophy majors study, you need to be one. Great philosophers throughout history have exposed the wrongs in society and affected change in the societies in which they lived. They like Socrates are the "Gadfly that stings the horse into action." As a philosophy major, you will learn how they did it.
You will also study the philosophy of other cultures, religion, and even physics. One skill taught to philosophy majors is how to organize a position in a debate and successfully argue against an opponent. You will also learn to think outside of the box, solve problems creatively, and how to read, observe and think critically.
This skills are useful in many professions. A journalist must be able to see past a politician's jargon and rhetoric to properly do his or her job, and a scientist must know how to argue if he or she is to win a government grant. Diagnosticians must think critically when making a diagnosis, and computer programmers must be able to solve problems when writing code. Philosphy is more applicable than people think.
