Language

Majoring in a foreign language might seem like a somewhat questionable move.  After all, how many jobs will pay you on the simple basis of competency in another language.  But a Foreign Language degree should be taken for more than just face value.

A degree in a foreign language will also familiarize you with knowledge of that culture, their practices, customs, values, and religious beliefs.  This kind of knowledge makes you an ideal candidate for any career in travel.

And believe it or not, skills in cross-cultural communication make you invaluable in business and marketing.  Many culture perceive phrases, events and even colors in different ways; small changes can have vastly different cultural meanings.  For example, white in the U.S. connotes purity and is often the color
of a bride's wedding gown.  In the East, white is worn at funerals.
It behooves you to know these cultural differences when making deals with international clients or marketing globally.

You will be endowed with many other skills that make you marketable in many careers.
