In general, the field of Engineering has five primary divisions: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. There are dozens of smaller fields and subdivisions. They all revolve around one key concept; using technical knowledge to solve problems.  

The American Engineers' Council for Professional Development has defined engineering as "The creative application of scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions; all as respects an intended function, economics of operation and safety to life and property."

Basically, Engineers are math-oriented, outside-the-box thinkers who dedicate their careers to designing things that solve a problem, meet an unmet need, or answer a question.  The field of Engineering is interconnected with the fields of Science, Medicine, Art, and Political Science.  With its diverse array of concentrations and practical applications in the modern world, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering is extremely valuable.
