Early Childhood Education
The curriculum for a degree in early childhood education instructs the student in the principles of education but also incorporates concepts unique to Pre-K through 3rd Grade educators. Working with such young children demands vigilant observation. The teacher must also study early childhood development and how those concepts relate to pedagogy.
People do not get rich as pre-school teachers or early childhood educators. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary of a preschool teacher is a mere $19,600. Kindergarten teachers make slightly more; nearly $38,000 a year. Because developing a curriculum and grading assigning grades are much easier at that level, early childhood educators will have opportunities for a second job. This isn't high school, you won't have to grade 20, 10-page papers; just half a page in crayon.
What early childhood educators do get out of the job is the very rewarding experience of watching children develop and learn, and making an impact on a young life.
