Communications

Communications is a major area of study based in speech and rhetoric, or persuasive argument.  It also studies the history of communication from its origins in Greek and Latin rhetoric, to modern phenomena like l33tspeak and twittering.

An education in Communications will educate the student in how to organize a set of opinions into a convincing argument, and choosing what medium is best for spreading that position to the public at large.

If you have the gift of public speaking or writing, like to argue constructively, or just like the feeling of spreading a message to the people, a Communications degree can help you hone your skills to the pint where you could make a living off them.

Communications skills are necessary in the fields of Business, Public Relations,  Journalism, and Advertising and Marketing.  Picking the right medium for a message is especially important in the field of Marketing; an industry that is currently experimenting with new delivery systems like buzz marketing and advertisements in video games.

But in additon to being a very valuable major, a concentration, minor,or dual major in communications can help bolster your degree in anoter field that puts a premium on communication skills.
