Architecture
Architecture applies to the design and construction of buildings and other physical structures.
You might be saying to yourself, "Isn't that what a Civil Engineer does? They design buildings too!" And you are right; civil engineers design buildings. Civil engineers, however are more concerned with the math and physics of the building, while an architect is more concerned with the aesthetic value. Architects are the innovators, civil engineers make the design practical.
Think of the architect as a fine French chef; he makes sure the food is delicious and the presentation is appealing. Think of the civil engineer as Lean Cuisine; he takes that meal and tires to figure out how to package it and make it easy to prepare, all in one neat little container. One is concerned with style, the other with function.
As such, a degree program in Architecture will include more courses in Art and Social Science, and fewer courses in math and engineering.
After graduating, expect to spend time as an intern under a seasoned architect. The median annual wage-and-salary for an architect is about $64,000, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
