Associate
An Associate's degree is typically earned after two years of full-term study. In most cases, the Associates degree serves as the foundation for a Bachelor's degree, like the Associate of Arts or the Associate of Sciences. At junior colleges and community colleges, an Associate's Degree demonstrates the student has completed all the general requirements courses. This allows the student to then transfer to a university that grants a bachelor degree in their chosen field of study. This path saves the student money because a community college or online degree typically costs much less than four-year colleges.
In addition to being used as transfer degrees, Associate's degrees can also be professional degrees. These degrees are intended for students who wish to join the work force after graduating. For that reason they already have an area of focus, like the Associate of Applied Sciences, or the Associate of Business Administration.
